Child, Pre-Teen, and Teen Trauma Therapy in Greensboro NC

Trauma Focused-Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) is utilized when working with our younger population (5-19 years of age). In this therapy, we begin with psycho-education (i.e., teaching trauma effects, parenting tips, relaxation skills, and self regulations skills etc.). After learning these skills, we begin working on the trauma narrative and processing it. Upon completion of the processing, we focus on creating a future focused safety plan. Therapists also require a family member/significant person to join some sessions. The goals are to strengthen relationships and teach coping skills. Parents/Guardians are encouraged to support their children through the entire therapeutic journey.

Adult Trauma Treatment

We utilize the Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) integrated with Three Stages of Recovery Therapy – In this process we begin in Stage 1 to help you to establish a sense of safety by teaching strategies that help you feel more grounded and calm, such that you can begin to regain control over your life by creating space between your feelings and the traumatic memories. Stage 2 involves remembering the event and grieving losses. Cognitive Processing Therapy is used to processes beliefs about the event and to process responses that occurred after the event. One example of the ways to process the event may include writing down a narrative of the event and processing it completely. Stage 3 will include focusing on reconnecting with life and others. You will work on identity issues that might keep you from connecting with others. While symptoms may reemerge, the goal is to learn new strategies that help you care for yourself during these times. At this stage, you will also practice learning how to be more present in daily living, and become less focused on the the past traumatic event.

The Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) is an evidence-based listening therapy designed to reduce sound sensitivities and improve auditory processing, behavioral state regulation, and social engagement behaviors through filtered music. As a practical application of Polyvagal Theory, the SSP acts as a non-invasive, acoustic vagal nerve stimulator, helping to retune the nervous system to better support connection, collaboration and resilience. The SSP involves listening to specially filtered music through headphones alongside a provider in person or remotely. Suitable for children and adults, the
SSP has demonstrated benefits for individuals with trauma, anxiety, sensory processing differences and more.
